Father Daughter
Alongside Perth-based artists Bina Butcher, Carly Lynch, Emma Jolley, Michelle Wells, Rachel Salmon-Lomas, Valleri Foster and Wendy Golden, I worked through painting and audio to reflect upon Fathers from a Daughter's perspective. A common sense of distance and movement was explored by revisiting past events, childhood memories and stories told. We considered the roles relocation, shifting occupations, value-systems and family structures play in forming their personal connections with their fathers. This exhibition offered viewers a space to reflect upon their own familial relationships and the commonalities and complexities located within individual and collective lived experience. I hoped to reveal intimate experiences for the observation of the viewer. My aim was to examine my position as the only child and daughter of Adrian as he recently achieved his lifetime aspiration to run his own hobby farm.
